Meet Laura Murphy, a multifaceted senior tax accountant at Account Sense. With a wide-ranging background encompassing more than seven years of tax accounting expertise from a renowned Las Vegas firm, Laura specializes in the intricacies and nuances of tax prep, review, and customer service excellence. She holds the prestigious CPA designation, is an esteemed member of the AICPA, and has an M.S. in Accounting.
Laura's professional journey is nothing short of impressive. After earning her B.S. and M.S. in geology, Laura spent eight years as a professional geologist. Then, for 17 years, she was the co-owner and co-manager of a digital photography business. This season of her life laid the groundwork for meticulous attention to detail, a skill that she uses daily in her current role. Despite the switch from cameras to calculators, Laura's passion for geology remains unshaken.
As if her professional accolades weren't enough, Laura is a member of Toastmasters and enjoys public speaking, unlike most of the human population. (Did you know The National Institute of Mental Health reports that public speaking anxiety, or glossophobia, affects about 40%* of us?)
This overachiever started early too. Laura took a proficiency exam to leave high school behind and enter community college at the age of 15! She also earned the Gold Award at 16-years-old — the highest award in Girl Scouting bestows for developing and carrying out lasting solutions to issues in their neighborhoods and beyond – and carried this conviction for community into adulthood. Not only did she contribute toward founding a residential treatment center in Mohave County, AZ, but she was also recognized as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) of the Year and earned the CPS Choice Award for her dedication. Laura is currently on the lookout for her next opportunity to serve her community and the people in it.
When Laura is not at work, you can find her gardening, scuba diving, reading, hiking, and spending time with her beloved dogs.
